Licensing and activation

Last updated 5 min read

Evoglyph licenses are sold through Stripe. This article covers how the trial works, what your license entitles you to, what happens when you cancel or renew, and how refunds work.

This page explains licensing in plain language. The binding terms are the EULA and the Terms of Service; if anything here differs from them, they control.

Plans and pricing

Evoglyph offers three plans:

The first 3,000 customers get 50% off with at checkout: $1/month, $5/year, $10 lifetime. On a subscription, the discount applies for the life of the subscription: you keep the discounted rate for as long as it stays continuously active. Lifetime is a one-time payment, so its discount is inherently permanent. Once the code is deactivated or its redemption cap is reached, standard pricing applies to new checkouts.

See the pricing section on the homepage for current plans.

How the trial works

The trial allows up to 3,000 transcribed words within 7 days of first launch, whichever expires first; after that, dictation is copied to the clipboard instead of injected until a license key is activated. A few details worth knowing:

When no license is active — after the free trial reaches its limit, or after a subscription ends or a purchase is refunded — Evoglyph keeps running but stops inserting text directly. Instead it copies each dictation to your clipboard so you can paste it, and prompts you to activate a license. Your settings, vocabulary, and history stay on your Mac.

Entering your license key

After purchase, you receive your license key by email. Open Evoglyph, go to the Account tab, click Enter your license key, paste your key, and click Activate. Evoglyph contacts its licensing service to verify the key and claim a device slot, then unlocks dictation.

To manage your subscription (update your payment method, change plans, or cancel), open the LICENSE section on the Home screen and choose Manage billing, or email [email protected]. We also handle plan changes by request, usually same day.

Changing plans

To upgrade, downgrade, or switch billing intervals, email [email protected] and we will make the change and confirm any applicable credit. When you upgrade, the remaining value of your current subscription is applied as a credit toward the new plan; a downgrade takes effect at your next renewal, and you keep your current access until then.

Early-access pricing is preserved when you change plans within the same tier family. If you move to a plan that removes the discount, the discount cannot be re-applied.

Device limits and self-deactivation

Each Evoglyph license covers two devices. To free a slot, open Evoglyph, go to the LICENSE section on the Home screen, and choose Deactivate this device: this releases the Mac you are currently using. The slot is released within a few seconds and another Mac can activate.

Evoglyph can’t reach a device you no longer have, so deactivate a Mac before you sell, return, or wipe it. If you lose access to a device while both slots are in use (for example a lost or stolen Mac), email [email protected] and we’ll free the slot for you.

Renewal and the 7-day grace period

Subscriptions renew automatically. If a renewal payment fails (expired card, declined transaction, etc.), Evoglyph enters a 7-day grace period:

Cancellation

Cancel your subscription at any time by emailing [email protected]. After cancellation:

Lifetime purchases do not need to be cancelled; there is no recurring charge.

Refunds

Refund eligibility is governed by our Refund Policy. To raise one, email [email protected] within 30 days of purchase. When a refund is approved under the Refund Policy, here is what happens:

Local data (history, vocabulary, settings) is yours regardless of license state. A refund does not delete anything from your Mac.

Founders licenses

Explicit pre-launch testers and promo code holders receive a Founders license. Founders pricing is honored for the life of the product, regardless of changes to public pricing. If you have one, the in-app license screen will show Founders as your tier.

License troubleshooting

License is stuck on “Validating”

Evoglyph is waiting on a response from its licensing service. If it does not clear within 60 seconds, quit and reopen Evoglyph to retry; if it still does not clear, re-enter your key from the Account tab (Enter your license keyActivate). If it still fails, your network may be blocking the connection; see the troubleshooting article.

“Device limit reached” on activation

Your two device slots are taken. On a Mac you no longer want to use, open Evoglyph, go to the LICENSE section on the Home screen, and choose Deactivate this device to free its slot, then retry activation here. If you can no longer reach either active device (for example a lost or stolen Mac), email [email protected] and we’ll free a slot for you.

License says “Expired” right after I renewed

Evoglyph has not re-validated yet. Re-validation happens automatically — wait up to 60 seconds and try again, or quit and reopen Evoglyph to trigger a fresh check.

I cancelled but Evoglyph still works

That is correct. Cancellation lets you keep dictating until the end of the current period. When the period ends, the license is no longer active and Evoglyph falls back to copying each dictation to your clipboard until you activate a license.
